Collecting plastic for People’s Pavilion

During Dutch Design Week (21-29 Oct), People’s Pavilion, a temporary building from, by and for the people will be located on the Ketelhuisplein. It forms the beating heart of World Design Event and is the venue for lectures, debates, workshops and performances. What kind of plastic is suitable? Scroll below to learn more.

The pavilion is 100% circular, made of borrowed material. One of the eye catchers is the plastic facade made of recycled plastic. Collection is on Strijp-S. You can help us by saving up your plastic waste and delivering it there! Shampoo bottles, yogurt trays, olive bowls, tops of soda bottles and discarded garden chairs are recycled and get a second – and better – life.

Types of plastic

There are many diferent types of plastic. Not all types are suitable. he two types needed are HDPE and PP. We want to produce tiles in diferent colors; you can help by sorting your plastic by color before delivery.

HDPE and PP have a recycle logo on the packaging: HDPE2, PP5. If in doubt, you can throw a piece in water. HDPE and PP are the only types of plastics that float.

Examples of usefull and useless plastics

Most packaging is made of PP or HDPE: shampoo and detergent bottles, microwave dishes, yogurt and butter trays, tops of soda bottles.

Which packaging is not suitable?

  • soft plastics (plastic bags or inflatables)
  • plastic cutlery, cups / plates
  • soda bottles

Donate your plastic!

Come to the People’s Pavilion Plastic Station at the Philitelaan and deliver your plastic. The station is open 24/7. Want to know more? On Wednesdays and Saturdays, 13:00 to 17:00, our volunteers man the station. They sort the plastic and can give insight in this beautiful project.
